Action for Children have shown off their brilliant mural, curated by the young people the charity helps, and supported by local organisations and businesses.
The work, by Artist Bjorn Martin, now brightens a communal space within Action for Children’s training flats, and was put together in partnership with Guernsey Arts.
The mural was funded by Brittany Ferries’ community fund and Hope for a child, and was completed on World Homeless Day.
The training flats are utilised to help young people at risk of homelessness, and those same young people worked closely with the Guernsey Arts team crafting the initial artist brief and shortlisting submissions.
They also helped interview candidates before selecting Mr Martin to bring their vision to life.

Aaron Davies, Service Manager at the charity, said: “Whenever we collaborate with Guernsey Arts, we’re consistently impressed by the quality and creativity of the outcomes. This mural is no exception. It’s an outstanding piece that has puts young people and their voice firmly in charge.”
Mr Davies added: “I’m incredibly grateful to Guernsey Arts and to Bjorn, and to our funders, Hope for a Child and the Brittany Ferries Community Fund, for making this project possible.”
Jade Kershaw, the Community & Public Realm Officer for Guernsey Arts, said: “After an in-depth engagement process, Guernsey Arts is really pleased to see the results of the choices made by residents in the Action for Children training flats.”
Ms Kershaw continued: “Bjorn has created a brilliant, vivid mural based on consultation with the young people while also inspiring them with his current and previous murals. We’re so pleased to see the result of this project and are sure it will achieve its aims of creating a positive, social environment for the residents of the flats”.
