David Robilliard: Welcome to the Friendly Isle
Guernsey Museums & Galleries in association with Guernsey Arts are delighted to present David Robilliard: Welcome to the Friendly Isle, a new temporary exhibition at Guernsey Museum at Candie, running from tomorrow, Saturday 18th October until Wednesday 31st December 2025.
Local-born David Robilliard has had exhibitions across the globe and today his artwork is part of both national and international gallery collections including the Tate Modern. Yet despite this success, many islanders have never heard of him.
Described by his mother as a “caged bird” in Guernsey, David moved to London in 1975 to pursue a career in poetry which soon flourished into an exploration of art, sexuality and life.
His first published book of poetry and first exhibition of his artwork both happened in 1984 which subsequently saw David’s career thrive. In 1988 during the height of the UK’s AIDS epidemic David contracted HIV and died later the same year, tragically cutting short both his life and his creative journey.
Don’t miss this powerful tribute to a truly unique voice in contemporary art.
Normal admission applies – free entry with discovery pass.

Guernsey Choral Festival
The Guernsey Choral Festival is in full swing. Here’s what you can enjoy this week…
First up is a fabulous performance from the Amadeus Chamber Choir, Liverpool. Taking place at St Stephen’s Church from 7:30pm on Saturday 18 October, the choir will bring a repertoire that extends far beyond the reach of the choir stalls: from austere early chant, florid Renaissance polyphony, lewd madrigals and haunting folk songs, to upbeat Jazz and Pop arrangements. The Best of Bach, Beatles and Bond.
The concert is free to attend, but donations will be accepted in support of local charity, Headway Guernsey. You can find out more about them here: https://headwayguernsey.com/
Next up is ‘Tenebrae: A Prayer For Deliverance’, taking place from 7:30pm on Monday 20 October.
Returning to Guernsey after a sell out performance last year, Tenebrae will bring their signature blend of precision and expressive depth to the stage of St Stephen’s Church. This programme invites listeners into a meditative space where ancient words meet modern resonance. For more information and to secure your tickets, click the link below:
Last but certainly not least, next Friday 24 October, Octo Voces will take you on a journey through time, exploring the lasting power of sacred texts and the evolving musical languages that bring them to life.
Taking place from 7:30pm at St Joseph’s Church, the ‘Living Tradition’ programme pairs early music with contemporary reimagining’s, showing how composers across centuries have drawn from the same spiritual sources to create works of beauty and emotional depth.
Living Tradition is more than a concert – it’s a dialogue across time. By pairing ancient and modern voices, Octo Voces reveals how sacred music continues to evolve while remaining rooted in shared human longing and devotion.
Entry is free. Retiring collection.
