A Guernsey theatre group has been selected to perform at a prestigious national drama showcase in the UK.
The recently formed Drum Theatre Group comprises seasoned local actors Simon de la Rue and Dave Hyett.
Supported by their Director Fiona Dove, they recently performed a two-hander at Guernsey’s One Act Play Festival.
Their interpretation of ‘Brothers’ by Kerry Drumm came third in the local Festival, earning them a place at the National Drama Festival next month.
The pair said they are “delighted” to have been asked to perform it in front of a larger audience.
Their Theatre Group is one of just 13 that has been chosen from performances at 31 affiliated drama festivals across the country for inclusion at the National Drama Festival taking place in Bromsgrove, near Birmingham, next month.
“(Brothers) will be the second play of the opening night of the national event, which is regarded as the most prestigious showcase for amateur theatre in the country,” they said.
Ahead of travelling to England for the National Festival, Mr de la Rue and Mr Hyett will be performing ‘Brothers’ for a local audience this coming weekend.
Lasting one-hour, the play tells the story of Matt and Jay – in a forensic examination of both the strength and the crackling tension of their fraternal bond.
Tickets are available now for the show on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July, at the Avril Earl Dance & Theatre Arts Centre (the old St Andrew’s school).
“We are extremely grateful to Avril Earl Dance & Theatre Arts Centre for offering its venue to us for free, which helps us with the fundraising we must now undertake in order to travel to the UK,” said the actors.
Tickets cost £10, or £7.50 for students.
The play contains swearing, adult themes, and loud noises and is not suitable for under-14s.
