Jax Robin, Acting Chair of the St. Peter Port Lights charity, told Express that “around 700 envelopes” have been returned with cash and cheques since they were distributed by Guernsey Post in early July.
This is in addition to online donations made through PayPal and bank transfers into the St. Peter Port Christmas Lights account.
But tens of thousands of pounds are still required to ensure town lights up once again this Christmas.
“As the weather has continued to be so good, we appreciate that the last thing people want to think about is Christmas and have therefore not done a lot to promote the campaign further,” said Ms Robin.
“However, we do need to highlight the need to raise the further £29,000 required by mid-September to ensure we can commission the contractor to begin the 6+ week testing and erecting of the 2022 festive display.”
The cost of installing and removing the lights is said to have increased by 12% since last year.

Ms Robin added that whilst the charity is behind previous amounts raised for the lights at this point in the year, that the total raised so far is “an amazing achievement” in difficult economic circumstances.
“Any support you can give us with this would be very welcome please.”
