The five teenagers received their Cadets’ medals from Lieutenant-Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder, in a ceremony on 7 September.

The new Cadets are:

  • Ranger Guide Lauren Walsh, Capelles Rangers
  • Staff Sergeant Cadet Frederick Stewart, Elizabeth College CCF
  • Youth Board Member for the Youth Commission, Zara Honey
  • Vice Chair for Guernsey Youth Forum, Amelie Le Prevost
  • Sergeant Ellie Dufty, Elizabeth College RAF Air Cadets

The candidates were nominated by schools and local youth organisations, then submitted to a selection panel.

Sir Ian said: “I’ve very much enjoyed meeting my new Cadets for the first time.

“They are all very impressive young people, who each bring something different to the appointment.”

Each Cadet was awarded a medal engraved with their name, featuring a green ribbon and gold clasp.

Sir Ian is due to be succeeded by Lieutenant General Cripwell.

“These Cadets will get to work with two different Lieutenant-Governors during their year in post, which is fairly unusual.”

This year’s cohort of Cadets will also have the pleasure of experiencing Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, in what Sir Ian describes will be an “interesting and rewarding year.”

The new Cadets will also work with the Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney’s Youth Forum, that represents the views of young people in the Islands.
