The rescheduled Big Skipton Sleep Out will take place on Friday 20 March.

It was originally due to take place last month but had to be postponed when Storm Ingrid hit the island with strong winds and heavy rain.

Organisers said the priority was to keep the hundreds of participants, volunteers, and support staff safe.

They’ve now been able to rebook it for next month.

Graham Merfield, Chair of Caritas Guernsey, said he’s pleased it is still going ahead.

“It is no small responsibility to have more than 160 people sleeping out in an exposed area,” he said.

“Safety comes first and postponing was absolutely the right call, and we’re thankful for everyone’s flexibility. The Sleep Out shines a light on the hidden homelessness experienced by so many locally, and the funds raised directly support our Community Project to provide safe and dignified accommodation.

“We hope the new date will allow even more islanders to get involved and help us continue turning long‑term solutions into reality.”

Susan Fouquier, Chief Executive Officer of Skipton International, added that the decision to postpone was taken on safety grounds and while it has been rescheduled, the organisers recognise that people who are genuinely without shelter did not have that choice.

“We are truly grateful for the understanding shown by our participants and supporters,” she said. “Safety had to come first.

“We’re pleased to have confirmed a new date so quickly, and we hope that as many people as possible will join us on Friday 20 March to stand in solidarity with those in our community who face housing insecurity.

“Our commitment to this cause remains as strong as ever, and we look forward to seeing the island come together once again.”
