Anthony Griffin has been appointed as Headteacher of St Anne’s School.

He’ll in post from September, replacing Wendy Wilson who has decided to take early retirement and close the chapter on her career in education which has spanned more than three decades.

​Mr Griffin, who moved to the Channel Islands in 2018, has previously been an Assistant Headteacher in Jersey and has extensive teaching experience in the UK, South Korea, and Japan. 

The Education Office and the school’s Governing Body highlighted his strong focus on pastoral care and strategic leadership as key assets for the position. 

Ian Carter, the Chair of the Board of St Anne’s School, said: “The Governing Body is delighted at the appointment of Anthony Griffin as the next Headteacher of St Anne’s School. 

“Anthony brings a rare blend of strategic clarity, deep pastoral commitment, and a wholehearted belief in the potential of every child on Alderney.

“His leadership will strengthen the school’s ambitions, its community partnerships, and its culture of care. We look forward to working closely with him as St Anne’s enters this exciting new chapter.”

Nick Hynes, the Director of Education, added: “We are delighted to appoint Anthony as Headteacher of St Anne’s School. 

“We look forward to working closely with him from September and are confident that the wealth of leadership and pastoral experience he brings will be of great benefit to learners and staff in the island.”

Mr Griffin meanwhile has expressed his commitment to the local community and to maintaining high educational standards for the island’s students.

“I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to serve at St Anne’s School. I am very excited to get started and to play my part in ensuring the children of Alderney receive the education they deserve. 

“It is a very special school, and I’m delighted to join the community.”
