Mill Street is looking more vibrant by the minute with Art for Guernsey’s Street Art exhibition and summer project ‘Diversion’ giving local and visiting artists the chance to beautify the area.

‘Diversion’ runs from 27 June to 30 August, and will feature works by 14 international and 16 local artists.

It will also include contributions from children attending the organisation’s Summer Holiday Art Club, where they will be exploring the history of art, from Cave Paintings to Egyptian Hieroglyphics and more.

The project seeks to use art to increase footfall and support local businesses in the area, and from early interactions online, it may be hitting the mark before it even officially opens.

Street Artists and Muralists have been busy rattling their cans, dipping their brushes, and trying to keep a steady hand with a marker, and whilst the work is a long way from finished, it’s already proving popular online with photos taken by passersby being shared widely.

Posts on social media forums have pulled in hundreds of interactions, and multiple comments, all praising the creative initiative.

Express reporter Luke Webb is one of the artists involved in the initiative.

To read more on Street Art and its possible application in Guernsey, he’s previously written pieces with local and international art experts, and an Opinion piece calling for wider acceptance of street art.

Or if you want to see the benefits for yourself, artists are still at work on the public displays throughout the Old Quarter.

The exhibition officially opens tomorrow.
