A new business wanting to offer fast food from a trailer on North Beach has been given the go ahead.

Planning permission has been granted for a mobile trailer and tables to be put near the Pétanque courts on the northern side of the Harbour entrance road.

The planning application was approved in June, with the business now making plans to start selling food shortly.

A Facebook page for ‘Loadedgsy’ suggests the trailer could arrive in the island by the weekend.

Other posts on the page promise the fast food on offer will be “fresh” with all of the sauces made in house.

The chef was keeping the menu under wraps until the opening, with suggestions that burritos and other ‘loaded’ dishes will be on offer.

The planning application was submitted by Daniel McDonald earlier this year, with a view to the business potentially opening this summer.

As well as being a busy through-way for pedestrians and cyclists, and local and visiting boat owners, the area is well used by groups using the pétanque courts.

As well as social games, a number of business leagues use the courts on a regular basis during the day time and early evenings.

Planning permission for the trailer was granted in June, with some administrative conditions.

The business must store any tables and chairs inside the trailer when not in use and no advertisements can be placed in the area unless they also receive planning permission.

The opening hours will be 10:30 to 14:30 daily between Tuesday and Sunday.

Additionally, it is allowed to open between 17:30 and 21:00 on Fridays and between 08:30 and 14:30 on Saturdays.

The planning permission is for one year only initially.

Some concerns were raised by a member of the public and the St Peter Port Douzaine around the need for the food trailer with other businesses already selling food nearby, and the risk of setting a precedence for other trailers in the area which “could impact on the character and charm” of the harbour.

Other concerns were raised around using table and chairs on a raised platform without railings in place, how queuing will be managed, and about water supplies and drainage.

The Office of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation said it had no objections to the food trailer business being allowed to operate at North Beach, but it suggested that the owner contact them directly to discuss the trailer’s water supply.

The Planning officers said the application was compliant with all relevant Island
Development Plan policies, and therefore was approved, giving the green light for the new eatery.
