The group which recently acquired Randalls and a series of Jersey restaurants has started the process to buy the Red chain of restaurants in Guernsey.

An acquisition case was opened by the Guernsey Competition & Regulatory Authority in early December 2025 and closed for public comments on 17 December.

R.W. Randalls Limited wanted to buy 100% of Big Red Guernsey Limited to operate its restaurants, bars, and its importation and sale of beers, wines, and spirits.

Big Red currently operates the popular Red Grill House and Cocktail Bar, Rosso Pizza and Bar, and Tinto Tapas and Wine bar in St Peter Port. They are all located in the Pollet area of St Peter Port, and used to be owned by Dave Matheson – known to his friends as Red.

Mr Matheson retained ownership of Rouge Wine and Cheese bar, also in the Pollet, when he sold the rest of his ‘red businesses’.

Mr Matheson also owns and runs Alba in the Market. He previously owned Laskas at the Albany before selling that to the Liberation Group in 2010.

Randalls itself was taken over by CI Hospitality Limited, a local investment consortium owned by Ravenscroft Capital, in March 2025 taking on dozens of its establishments, tenanted pubs and shops.

Just this week CI Hospitality announced it would take on three restaurants in Jersey under the JPRRestaurants banner.

CI Hospitality will now run Banjo, Oyster Box and Jersey Crab Shack.
