After being deemed ‘potentially unsafe’, the Old Quarter sign is back in place having been repaired by a local contractor.

The sign – that sits across the road at the bottom of Mill Street – was taken down in January because it was old, and rusty.

The St Peter Port Constables asked Siteweld to fix it and that work was completed last week with the sign being reinstalled on Sunday.

The contractor repaired the sign by removing rust and old paint, welding it back together where necessary, before repainting it in blue and gold.

“The Old Quarter sign is one of many assets that are owned and maintained on behalf of St Peter Port parishioners,” said Senior Constable, Diane Mitchell.

“This is part of our vision to make the town more attractive for locals and visitors alike.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the results of this restoration, thanks to the work of Siteweld and our own maintenance team and expect that the sign will now continue to welcome people to the Mill Street area for many more years to come.”
