Local organ scholar François Cloete will perform J. S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations BWV 988 on the harpsichord as a fundraiser for the Guernsey Harpsichord Trust, (GHT).
The recital is scheduled for Saturday, (18.30, 2nd August), at Elizabeth College, and will last for approximately one hour.
Described by the GHT as an “exceptionally talented keyboard player and Guernsey native”, Mr Cloete has been awarded the organ scholarship at Westminster Abbey, following prior scholarships and a ‘Congratulatory First’ from Merton College Oxford. They add that Mr Cloete also conducts award-winning musicological research.
The concert will showcase the Trust’s recently restored ‘Andrew Garlick’ harpsichord, aiming to encourage talented young musicians to learn the instrument.
The GHT have confirmed that Mr Cloete has waived his fee, with donations, (of £25 or more), sought to cover the instrument’s insurance and maintenance costs.
