Supporters of Dr Dean Patterson are being urged to write testimonials as they rally around him.

In a letter shared with Express, Kirsten Hieghton-Jackson has asked former patients or colleagues of the cardiologist (pictured top) to advocate for him, after he was sacked by the Medical Specialist Group and reported to the General Medical Council.

Ms Hieghton-Jackson is also encouraging people to take part in the current public consultation on how complaints are dealt with by Guernsey’s Health and Social Care services, which includes the MSG.

Dr Patterson lost his position as both a Partner and Consultant Cardiologist at the MSG earlier this year.

He has also been suspended for 12-months by the General Medical Council while it investigates his ‘fitness to practice’ – which he is appealing.

Dr Patterson had previously raised concerns about the covid vaccine programme publicly, and was commissioned to review possible links between the vaccine and cardiac conditions observed in his patients.

Guernsey’s Medical Director, Dr Peter Rabey – who is employed by HSC and also works for the MSG – had commissioned the review which is said to have revealed “concerns about aspects of Dr Patterson’s clinical performance”.

Dr Rabey confirmed it was he who had reported Dr Patterson to the GMC, which led to his suspension and sacking from the MSG.

The public response to Dr Patterson’s sacking and suspension suggested that many of his patients were standing by him.

In her letter, Ms Hieghton-Jackson says “medical integrity on Guernsey has recently come into question after cardiologist Dr Dean Patterson faced backlash for advocating on behalf of his patients who suffered medically induced injuries”.

She claims that “doctors who carefully investigate patient complaints, diligently flag adverse events, and request autopsies when patients may have died from a medical treatment (as Dr Patterson did) embody the profession’s ideals, yet they face reputational harm and even job loss”.

“How can we, as an ethical society, let our doctors lose their livelihoods for having advocated for us?” she asks.

“If we value patient-centred care, we should all rally behind local cardiologist Dr Dean Patterson, whose career has come into question after he witnessed some of his patients suffer adverse reactions from the m-RNA COVID- 19 vaccine. Having medical integrity requires that practitioners like Dr Patterson place individual patient welfare above politics and financial incentives, but at what cost to their careers, personal lives, and families?”
