Family and friends of Rose Haysom smashed the fundraising target they set themselves, while marking what would have been her 28th birthday at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Rose died in February last year, aged 26, after being diagnosed with adenocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer.
Determined to honour her memory, while raising money for Les Bourgs Hospice which had cared for Rose in her final weeks, a group of her loved ones started training on Guernsey’s cliff paths for their ‘KilimanjaRose’ challenge within weeks of her death.

The ‘KilimanjaRose Charity Trek’ was completed by Rose’s father Steve Haysom, her sister Lily, Lily’s boyfriend Christian Povall, and close friends Helena de Carteret and Erin Scullion.
They climbed the mountain, reaching the summit on Rose’s birthday, Sunday 20 September.
The group had set themselves a fundraising target of £19,341 – or £1 for each foot of the mountain.
The total amount they have raised reached £22,457 with all of the money going to Les Bourgs Hospice.
In her last post on Instagram, Rose had said she was at the hospice and “being so well cared for”.
In the post which was shared by her family after her death, Rose thanked everyone for their support.
“I am so glad I’ve had this Instagram to share the reality of being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, but also to share all of the highs of the past year,” she wrote.
“There have been so many. Sharing everything has given me strength, and I hope it gives you strength too.
“I have had a short life but it has been full of love, incredibly fun adventures and some of the best friends and family a girl could have wished for.
“Take care everyone and remember to be happy, be kind, and live and laugh a lot.”

Rose’s family said the care she received at Les Bourgs Hospice brought “peace and tranquility” to her final days.
“Rose was so brave and inspirational in her fight against cancer,” said her father, Steve Haysom.
“The care she received from the staff at Les Bourgs Hospice was exemplary, and we wanted to give something back.
“This trek was incredibly tough, but also healing.
“I’m so proud of Lily, Christian, Helena and Erin – and hugely grateful to the amazing 29-strong African team who supported us every step of the way.”
Donations can still be made to Les Bourgs Hospice in memory of Rose Haysom.
