The eight-week project will involve rope access to remove some of the rocks caught by the existing catch fencing and the installation of a secondary fence on the cliff face to prevent further rockfalls reaching the pathway.

Pedestrian access to the beach was restricted in March 2022 following a series of landslips which was feared to have compromised the safety netting put in place around the path.

The States say that once these works have been completed and access by steps is deemed safe, the steps will be reopened. 

It was hoped that the steps could’ve reopened at the end of last year, but difficulties finding a contractor and a spell of wet weather paused the final phase of works.
