The Government Work Plan debate was originally scheduled to start on 17 March, but P&R has submitted a motion to defer this to 24 March instead.

The GWP is a roadmap for the next four years and will be used to focus P&R’s efforts and help Guernsey recover from the pandemic.

A 3-stage process will look to tackle 2020’s general revenue deficit of £59 million and 2021’s estimated shortfall, which was £23 million before the second wave of Covid-19 hit the island. The first stage will feature moves to cull outstanding States resolutions that committees no longer want.

There is no guarantee that Guernsey will be in Stage 3 by the 24 March, but subject to Public Health advice, this is where the island is headed.

A decision will now need to be made to either support or dismiss this motion to delay and the Assembly will meet virtually on the original date to decide this.

If we are still in Stage 2 of our exit from lockdown on the revised date, the debate will be held virtually instead.
