Guernsey’s senior States committee will continue working with just four members for another few weeks after a vote to replace Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq was deferred this morning.
Policy and Resources comprises of five members usually – with each taking on responsibility for different work streams.
Deputy Le Tocq has been responsible for Guernsey’s international relations and external affairs for some years now, having been a member of P&R throughout the last term of office and before that.
However, he has resigned from that role while being held in remand at Les Nicolles Prison.
He has been charged with numerous criminal offences, to which he has not yet entered any pleas, and is next due in court on 15 September.

Since he was arrested in July, his external relations work has been covered by Deputy Steve Falla, while P&R President, Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, her vice-President Deputy Gavin St Pier who is the Resources lead, and Chair of the Tax Review Sub-Committee Deputy Charles Parkinson have continued in their roles.
The P&R Committee had lodged a motion to replace Deputy Le Tocq on P&R, with a debate on that expected today.
However, he tendered his resignation from P&R to the Bailiff, which has been accepted and the opportunity to elect a replacement member to P&R was available during today’s States meeting.
Express understands that a number of other deputies have expressed an interest in working on P&R, with those discussions still being held behind closed doors.
Deputy de Sausmarez asked for the election to be deferred to the next States meeting, later in September, and the Bailiff agreed.
