The flats off Courtil St Jacques - near Green Lanes - were badly damaged during the storm.

Most of the people who were evacuated from three blocks of St Peter Port flats during Storm Goretti have returned home.

About 50 people were evacuated to local hotels from Maison Brock, Maison Grue, and Maison Haro – near the Green Lanes – at around midnight on Thursday evening, after a tree fell on one of the buildings and flying debris caused the roof and emergency hatch to rip off others.

Zack (17) – who missed a maths exam on Friday morning because of the storm – told Express he was now back in his Maison Haro flat, along with his girlfriend and his dad Mark, after spending several nights in a nearby hotel.

‘Wonky outside still’

Zack’s motorbike survived the storm.

He said he believed everyone in the bottom floors of the buildings had also now returned to their flats, after building managers had made the properties safe.

However, he was not sure if people on the top floor had been able to return yet.

Zack had been worried during the storm about his and his dad’s motorbikes, but said they had survived the storm.

“Our bikes and our flat are okay,” he said, “But everything’s just a bit wonky outside still.”
