Saints Bay Hotel has closed until further notice, following a kitchen fire over the weekend that left two people in hospital.

The blaze on Sunday morning sparked an emergency response from all three blue light services and civil protection volunteers.

The 35 residents of the hotel were evacuated after the fire broke out in the kitchen at 07:23 yesterday morning, with the all clear given at 10:30, after the fire had been brought under control.

The two people taken to the Emergency Department had suffered smoke inhalation.

There’s been no further update on their condition at the time of publication.

As part of a “pre-arranged Emergency Plan”, the residents of the hotel were taken to Styx Community Centre on Sunday morning.

A clinician was on site there, attending to any medical needs, while alternative accommodation was found.

The co-ordination between the services has been praised, with a spokesperson from Ambulance and Rescue saying: “Our National Inter-Agency Liaison Officer co-ordinated between all services for a successful outcome. This was a great example of inter-agency work.”
