People in Sark will have to pay more to get to Guernsey for medical appointments.

The Isle of Sark Shipping Company (Sark Shipping) previously offered a discounted rate for people travelling to the larger island for treatment.

However, the company told islanders last week they would need to pay full price from now on.

Sark Shipping said it had previously funded the discounted travel.

Any existing bookings for medical appointments will be honoured, but new bookings must be made through he company’s normal ticketing process.

The company said it was eviewing its prices to ensure that they are fair, consistent and sustainable.

Sark’s Medical and Emergency Services Committee said it would review the situation, but would not be stepping in to support the service at this state.

However, it did not rule out subsidies in future.
