The Guernsey Music Bursary has been awarded to seven music students for the next academic year.
These bursaries support their studies at music colleges or universities off-island. Established in 2021, the GMB aims to support aspiring young musicians from Guernsey.
Following an audition process in April earlier this year, seven students were selected. Three of the recipients are continuing bursaries, while four are new.
New applicants needed to have a conditional offer or already be studying music off-island and the selection process focused on commitment and where the bursary would make a significant impact.
The four new recipients are Anya Blue Robins, Samuel Cole, Archie Purdue, and Joseph Stoller.
Miss Robins will be pursuing a Master’s in violin performance at the Royal College of Music, while Mr Cole, a multi-instrumentalist (violin, guitar, piano) with advanced diplomas has a conditional offer to study Music BA (Hons) at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford.
Mr Purdue is currently a Bass Choral Scholar at Hereford Cathedral. He will study Music BA (Hons) at Girton College, Cambridge.
Mr Stoller is a violinist who has attended the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department and performed with the National Youth Orchestra. He has a conditional offer for Music Performance BA (Hons) at the Royal College of Music.
The three returning recipients are Benjamin Childs who continues his MusB Music undergraduate course at the University of Manchester, (piano and cello), Madeleine Vaudin; continuing her MusB Music undergraduate course at the University of Manchester (flute), and Jacob Wright; who has been awarded a bursary for his MMus Postgraduate course in violin performance at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Beyond financial aid for instruments and essentials, the bursary provides mentoring and career introductions.
These bursaries are funded by generous donations from island music lovers, with the GMB seeking further donations to build reserves for future commitments.
