A Guernsey vet has turned bedtime-story duty into a children’s book – inspired by his daughter’s love of the family dog.
Isaac Stevenson, who works at Isabelle Vets, has written ‘Dizzy the Puppy Goes to the Vet’, which follows a nervous pup on her first visit to the vet.
And there is a particularly cute reason behind the choice of star.
Mr Stevenson said his young daughter Lilah loves dogs, especially their own Dizzy – and her first word was “Dizz”.
“As I spend a lot of time reading bedtime stories, I thought it would be fun to have a go at writing one myself,” he said.
“I couldn’t find any children’s book about vets, so it seemed an obvious choice as a topic, and it was a great way to celebrate Dizzy as well.”
Mr Stevenson qualified as a vet in 2022 and has spent the past year and a half caring for pets at Isabelle Vets.
He said he wanted the book to be fun while also helping children understand what happens when their pets visit the vet.
“My aim was to make the book entertaining but also educational,” he said.
“I was surprised how much I enjoyed writing the book and it was satisfying to see my ideas come to life on the page. Getting to read it to Lilah was very special.”
So, from one little “Dizz” to a whole children’s book, it seems this particular shaggy dog story has a rather happy ending.
