Work has started on Guernsey’s first animal hospital, which could open as soon as January.
Isabelle Vets, the island’s oldest vets, said construction had started on its new state-of-the-art facility in St Sampson.
Once completed, the facility – at Garenne Park – will have onsite care for small animals 24-hour-a-day, as well as a specialist equine facility.
It will also have four operating theatres, six consulting rooms, and separate waiting rooms for cats and dogs – alongside a CT Scanner, dental, and X-ray facilities.
Clinical Director Doreen Munn-Litten said the new animal hospital represented “a major step forward for veterinary care on the island”.
“We know how important pets and horses are to the people who own and care for them, which is why delivering exceptional treatment and continuous support is central to our approach.
“The new practice will allow our teams to monitor and care for patients around the clock, ensuring they receive dedicated attention at every stage of recovery.”
Isabelle Vets will still need to apply for accreditation as a small animal veterinary hospital to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, once work is completed in December.
The vet, which has been in business for 107 years, will keep its current clinics on Route Isabelle and L’Islet as branch surgeries.
