Brittany Ferries has given its newly acquired vessel the ‘Islander’ a special makeover to bring “a taste of Guernsey and the Channel Islands to passengers” before they even set foot on our shores.
The ship’s 11 top-tier cabins have been named after well-known places across Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, and Herm, with cabins now called the ‘St Peter Port’ or ‘Shell Beach’.
Each of these cabins now has a poster explaining more about the location it’s named after. There’s also a new map in the main passenger area to help direct people to their themed cabins.
Joëlle Croc from Brittany Ferries explained that this change is about making the Islander truly represent the region it serves, showcasing the identity and personality of the modern-day Channel Islands.
“In keeping with all Brittany Ferries’ vessels, Islander now embodies the region from which she takes her name, reflecting images from Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm as well as bringing to life the identity and personality of the modern-day Islands.”
Over the last 12 months, Guernsey has solidified a 15-year contract with Brittany Ferries, reinforcing their partnership after the ferry company’s full takeover of Condor.
Brittany Ferries said they’ve worked closely with Visit Guernsey on this project, highlighting their commitment to making the passenger journey more enjoyable, comfortable, and valuable.
Zoe Gosling, the Lead Marketing Officer from the States of Guernsey emphasised that these new touches are a “fantastic way to promote the Bailiwick” and help travellers get a real feel for the islands from the very start of their trip.
“We’re delighted to have worked with Brittany Ferries to bring Guernsey’s character to life on board Islander. These new touches give travellers a real sense of our five islands from the moment they set off. It’s a fantastic way to promote the Bailiwick and make the journey part of the overall experience.”
