The story of Jill Chubb, her family, and the experiences of deported islanders throughout the Second World War, has gained national recognition at the height of British podcast production.
‘The Guernsey Deportees’ produced by OG Podcasts won two awards at the British Podcast Awards, which took place at London’s O2 last night.
Ollie and Phillippa Guilou are the duo behind OG Podcasts, who took on the difficult task of turning his Grandma’s story into a nationally acclaimed podcast.
The six-part series features first-hand accounts from those sent to the Biberach internment camp during World War Two, with a focus on Mrs Chubb, who was just three years old when she was forced to leave the island.
The podcast series was released ahead of the 80th anniversary of Guernsey’s liberation, and featured at the Guernsey Literary Festival earlier this year.
Now OG Podcasts has been awarded Gold in the Specialist category and Silver in the History category at the British Podcast Awards.
They were nominated earlier this year, and were up against some giants of the industry, said Mr Guillou.
“It’s amazing to be recognised among some of the biggest names in podcasting, including the BBC, Wondery and Global.
“It’s an honour to be able to share my Grandma’s story, and for this piece of Guernsey history to have touched the hearts of so many.”
