29 trees are in the process of being removed from Guernsey’s Princess Elizabeth Hospital, with a one way system in place during the works.
The States Property Unit say they will be planting native trees to restore the natural boundary where needed.
The States say the selected trees have been marked for removal due to diseases, age related decline, or structural defects.
They add that the trees could also pose a risk to public safety during periods of bad weather.
A spokesperson for the States confirmed that the work is taking place currently to avoid any bird nesting season, and that the appropriate safeguards “are in place to ensure habitats are protected.”
The works are due to take place over three weeks in total. Starting yesterday they’ll be underway until Friday, before resuming on 10 November, with a goal to be fully finished by 23 November.
There will be an impact to the traffic flow on PEH grounds, with some parking spaces being temporarily closed.
Meanwhile the buses 51, 60, 61, 71 and P2 will run from the PEH to Town as normal, with an hourly service to the PEH from Town via buses P2 and 81.
