Guernsey’s museums have enjoyed another bumper year, with almost 75,000 visitors through their doors as the summer season draws to a close.
Visitor numbers were already up 3% on last year by the end of August, with almost 66,000 people exploring the island’s heritage sites.
Castle Cornet enjoyed a particularly busy summer before closing early in September for bridge repairs, with more than 5,200 people attending Castle Nights and another 2,300 snapping up tickets for Twilight Cinema.
Fort Grey and the German Naval Signals Headquarters will welcome their final visitors of the year on Sunday 1 November, before shutting up shop for the winter.
Helen Glencross, Head of Culture and Heritage Services, said the figures demonstrated the “strong appeal of Guernsey’s heritage offer” and thanked staff, partners and visitors for another successful season.
But the fun isn’t over yet, with Guernsey Museum at Candie remaining open until 31 December, including a LEGO history exhibition and Halloween activities this weekend.
The Noon Day Gun will also continue to fire at Castle Cornet on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, despite the castle being closed to visitors.
