Families gathering around the Monopoly board this Christmas could find themselves squabbling over Mont Orgueil, being sent straight to La Moye or collecting cash to mark Liberation Day.

A new Jersey edition of the board game was unveiled yesterday, more than two decades after the original Island version was released in 2004.

The first edition was described as “hugely popular” but was discontinued many years ago.

Its replacement follows a public consultation inviting Islanders to suggest locations for the board and ideas for Jersey-themed Community Chest and Chance cards.

More than 30 Island organisations and landmarks featured in the game were revealed at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel on Friday.

Local quirks include a card awarding players 50 Monopoly dollars on Liberation Day and another penalising them for leaving the rock for England.

Jersey Airport and the Elizabeth Marina replace traditional railway stations, while a Jersey cow features on the redesigned Monopoly money.

Holidays for Heroes Jersey, which offers holidays to the Island for ex-service personnel, secured the charity square following a public vote.

Charity chair Adele Langlois said: “We are delighted that the public voted Holidays for Heroes Jersey to be the charity on the new Monopoly: Jersey Edition board.

“This shows the high regard for our armed forces personnel in the Island and we hope everyone enjoys playing the new game.”

Local toyshop Bambola Toymaster also has its own square and will stock the game alongside Waterstones, TG Jones and online retailers.

Ben Ladd Gibbon, partnerships manager at Winning Moves UK, said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in our public consultation process.

“We have been wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this unique game together.”
