Potential volunteers are being asked to step forward to ensure this year’s 80th Liberation Day celebrations are a success.
Help is needed with various roles, including marshalling the Cavalcade, assisting at the Cavalcade starting points, and helping with the commemorative events and festivities in St Peter Port.
The Association of Guernsey Charities said a lot of people need to work together to ensure it’s all a success.
“The volunteer roles are being organised into slots of as little as 2.5 hours so people only need to commit a short part of their day, and signing up is easier than ever via volunteer.gg.
“In addition, a small number of team leaders are also required, overseeing a team of volunteers on the day.”
The various roles that need covering will also involve tasks like welcoming spectators, managing parking, and stewarding seating, with team leaders also needed.
Alex Knowelden, Volunteer Team Head Marshall said the 80th anniversary of the Liberation will be a huge event in itself.
“The 80th Liberation Day is a genuinely historic occasion and a chance to celebrate eight decades of freedom and everything that makes Guernsey special,” he said.
“I think everyone who volunteers to help put on a day that our community will never forget will find it hugely rewarding. As with the Island Games which I was also involved in, this is a real chance to be part of something very special, and the more people who come forward, the more it helps us make sure everything runs safely and smoothly.”
An information event for prospective volunteers will be held at Les Cotils on 26 March.
