The island is marking the end of the winter months this weekend with events featuring local artists, musicians, historians, filmmakers and drag queens.
Every week, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.
Here’s what’s coming up…
Young Musician of the Year final
Find out who will be named Jersey’s top young musician at the annual PwC Young Musician of the Year final.
Organised by the Jersey Music Service, six budding performers will take to the Jersey Arts Centre stage on Saturday 1 March to show-off their skills for the chance to win £1,000 and the coveted title.
Performances begin at 19:00, and the evening will feature a special solo from 2024 winner and flautist, Cosimo Dhami-Hounsome.
Tickets can be purchased here.
Pop-up art exhibition
ArtHouse Jersey’s next event in the Collins pop-up exhibition series takes place this weekend with ‘Gathering Light’.
Jersey-based creatives Shân Murton and Liz Adams will showcase their work at Greve de Lecq barracks on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 March.
Since moving to Jersey, photographer and graphic design graduate Shân came to appreciate the structure of the natural world.
Together with her experience undergoing x-rays, she was inspired to produce similar photographs of plants in a similar manner.
Meanwhile, having studied languages at university, Liz’s painting career began in her mid-forties.
Her abstract acrylic work aims to express an emotional response to the world around her.
Liz and Shân’s work for ‘Gathering Light’ can be viewed from 10:00 until 17:00 on both days.
Meet the Collections
Ever wanted to get a sneak peek at the Jersey Heritage archives?
If so, you’re in luck, as the charity’s ‘Meet the Collections’ series for 2025 begins this Saturday 1 March.
‘New Accessions’ is this weekend’s theme, where islanders will have the opportunity to see objects and records that were added to collections over the past year and are not currently on display at visitor sites.
Once a month, archivists will use a new theme to select some of the weird and wonderful objects that make up the island’s history – from the Occupation, to wildlife, and toys and games.
Visitors can attend the Jersey Archive this Saturday from 09:30 until 13:00. The event is free and no booking is required.
