The Ladies’ College has hosted a visit from its sister school as part of a biennial hockey tour that marked the relationship between the two institutions, which has lasted more than 150 years.

The Ladies’ College first Principal, Miss Susan Eaton, was a former member of staff at Cheltenham Ladies’ College.

The local school opened in 1872 with 12 pupils, based on an educational model adapted from the Cheltenham school.

To mark 2026 and the 150 years of friendship, eighteen Year 8 students took part in a joint hockey training session before a tournament, which included two mixed teams from the Guernsey Hockey Club.

Off the field, visiting students Lydia and Tasha also participated in The Ladies’ College Upper Sixth Leavers’ Service by reading a prayer.

The itinerary included a trip to Herm, and saw the girls join the Liberation Day celebrations in St Peter Port.

Director of Sport at The Ladies’ College, Helen Le Maitre, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Cheltenham Ladies’ College for visiting us and deeply value the historic friendship between our two schools.

“We look forward to continuing this special relationship for many years to come.”
