There’s plenty going on outside of St Peter Port this Liberation Day, with wholesome family fun events, some legends on the local music scene, and classics like Crown and Anchor, and feasts of food at events elsewhere.

The main public ones are being hosted in St Pierre du Bois, St Andrews and the Castel. 

Freedom Fest – St Pierre Du Bois

Hosted by Sylvans, ‘Freedom Fest’ promises “unforgettable live music, great food, refreshing drinks and family-friendly fun” as families and friends gather to celebrate the 81st Anniversary of Liberation Day. 

At 10:00 there’s a service of thanksgiving, replicating the original church service held in 1946 to mark the first anniversary of Guernsey’s liberation.

The Salvation Army Band will be performing, before Singing for Health at 11.00. 

From 12:30 there’ll be a display from the Guernsey Academy of Theatrical Education, and at 13:00 you have a chance to meet some miniature donkeys.

From 15:00 there’ll be an RGLI presentation in the Tea Tent. 

Music kicks off from 14:00, with Drift Wood, Deaf Donkeys, Victoria, Our Tomorrow, Clamour de haro, and Stuck to the Ceiling all on the line-up.

There’ll be a proper feast of food as well as music, with options including Mim’s and The Himalayan Kitchen, as well as a fish and chip van, a candyfloss and popcorn stand, and the Tea Tent. 

There’s also a licensed bar from The Vraiceater’s Tavern. 

For film lovers who are looking to feel patriotic there’ll be showings of ‘A La Perchoine’ (12.00) and ‘Appointment With Venus’ (13.00) in the Clubhouse.

An outdoor screen will be showing the celebrations from Town.

Plus there’ll also be a static vehicle display, a VR Experience Tent, bouncy castles, and more! 

Liberation at the Last Post – St Andrews

The Last Post says the team are “going all out this year”, promising “something for everyone”.

The organisers of ‘Liberation at the Last Post’ added that people should “bring the family, bring your friends and settle in for a proper Liberation Day celebration.”

The Last Post has scheduled a full programme for Liberation Day to ensure everyone is entertained.

From ​12:00 until 13:00, Grace J takes to the stage with an acoustic set, before Aviation takes over from ​13:30 though to 14:30. 

Between ​15:00 and 16:00 the stage belongs to the Space Pirates of Roquaine, and then from ​16:15 – 17:15 you can catch a performance from Emily Fern. 

Things get lively between ​18:00 and 22:00, with DJs Seb Skillen and Joe Williams. 

They also have a Crown & Anchor table, a Helter Skelter slide, and a Woodland Bouncy Castle. 

Food and drink options include a Hog Roast provided by Surf & Turf, a BBQ, and an outdoor bar.

Family Fun Day at the KGV – Castel

The KGV Playing Fields will be hosting a Family Fun Day, with organisers promising that “from cider vibes to family rides, we’ve got everything you need for a perfect May 9th”.

Starting at 12:00 and lasting through to 20.00, there’s no admission cost, and plenty on offer, with bouncy castles, a ‘Happy Hen Hut’, and an outside bar with hot food available.

Plus a stacked set list with Lee-ann Hawkes, Dan Ashplant, The Why Nots, Loz & the Lightyears, and Scrumpy & Western.
