Alderney is looking to secure its summer ferry link for 2026, inviting operators to come forward to run the seasonal service to and from Guernsey.
The States of Alderney said it recognises the importance of connectivity to the island and wants to continue supporting a seasonal ferry service, so has launched a procurement process.
What’s desired?
The opportunity is open to operators with vessels carrying up to 12 passengers, to run services from the Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May through to the end of September 2026.
The successful applicant will also have the option to extend the service into the 2027 and 2028 seasons, subject to review by both parties.
It is envisaged that the minimum level of service on the Alderney–Guernsey route would include at least two rotations per day, operating on a minimum of five days per week, including Fridays and Sundays, to allow for overnight visits to Alderney.
“A vital part of our transport network”
Chair of the Economic Development Committee, Stuart Clark, said the seasonal ferry service had become an important part of Alderney’s transport network.
“The seasonal ferry service has become a vital part of our transport network, offering greater flexibility for visitors and providing a reliable alternative for air passengers,” he said.
“It enhances connectivity, supports tourism, and strengthens resilience in our transport options. We’re excited to see strong interest from providers who can help us build on this success.”
How to apply?
Interested providers are being asked to submit basic information, including details of their vessel and an indicative schedule. Once initial submissions have been received, a more detailed tender process will be carried out, with the aim of appointing a provider in time for the service to begin in May.
The closing date for Expressions of Interest is 9 January 2026.
