Staging the two-day ‘Meet the Candidates’ event at Beau Sejour helped voters make their minds up, and gave election candidates an insight into what the public really want from the next States.
Candidates spoken to by Express said it had been “worthwhile”.
Current deputies said it gave them the chance to explain what they’ve achieved over the past four years, while also being put on the spot about what they haven’t done by voters.
Those candidates spoken to by Express said they’d seen a steady stream of voters at Beau Sejour over Saturday and Sunday, with some not stopped for a lunch break until nearly the end of the day.
The two day event saw candidates assigned a desk each where they could speak on a one-on-one basis with voters. The sport hall at Beau Sejour was set aside for the purpose between 10:00 and 16:00 on both days.
In total the Beau Sejour events cost the States around £11,600. That means per candidate, it cost £140.
This Wednesday will see another ‘Meet the Candidates’ event, with all candidates invited to attend, at Les Beaucamps High School between 17:30 and 20:30.
Advance polling opens in the 2025 island wide election on Sunday 15 June, with a further advance polling day on Tuesday 17 June, at Beau Sejour, Les Maingys Activity Centre, and Styx Community Centre on both days.
Polling opens fully at 08:00 on Wednesday 18 June with ballot boxes at Beau Sejour, Les Maingys Activity Centre, Styx Community Centre, Castel Douzaine Room, St Martins Parish Hall, St Peter Port Constables Office, St Andrews Douzaine Room, and St Sampsons Community Hall.
The polling stations close at 20:00 on Wednesday 18 June with the votes being counted and results being announced on Thursday 19 June.
