The figures are released following a Freedom of Information request inquiring into the spending on the new premises at Route du Fort.
According to the reply the predicted cost of the headquarters and associated works, including the extension to Green Street multi-storey car park is £24,397,870. So far £22,689,256 has been spent.
The project is said to be on time and within budget. The state-of-the art five-storey station is expected to open early next year. Nearly £15million pounds of funding for the project has come from the Proceeds of Crime Fund.
Building the new premises has been a complicated job because of its size and location. A total of 266 piles have been driven 12 metres into the ground to support the building, and more than 1,000 tonnes of steel and roughly 4,500 cubic metres of concrete have been used in the construction.
Most of the building is office space. There’s a charging suite on the ground floor, and below that 22 holding cells. Special blast plates and reinforced pillars have been incorporated into the scheme in case the building should be bombed.
Vehicle access off Route du Fort is provided both to the custody suite at ground floor level and to the basement parking.
