Sarah Fink discovered the dog, which she described as medium-sized and male, on Dixcart Bay, on Sark’s south coast, on Tuesday.
Despite reaching out to people in Sark and the individual responsible for animal welfare on the island, the owner is still yet to be identified.
Concerned that someone may have been missing a “well-loved” pet for some time without knowing what happened to it, Sarah is now reaching out to potential owners across the Channel Islands.
“Anyone missing a dog?… Sadly, I found a dead male dog washed ashore at Dixcart (Sark). It’s a middle-sized dog,” she wrote on social media.
She later commented that she did not think any microchip would be readable as the pet “must have been in the sea for a while”, adding: “No fur left so it’s hard to tell which breed it was.”
Sarah has since shared photographs of the dog – which some readers may find distressing – to help with identification. They can be viewed here.
Anyone who thinks they may be the owner or who has more information is asked to contact her on Facebook.
