Draw portraits with Jason Butler
Local artist Jason Butler has been lured out of teaching retirement for a one-off workshop tonight at 19:00.
While his primary focus in recent years has been on producing abstract paintings, Jason does still accept portrait commissions.
His workshop, which will take place over video communications platform Zoom, will focus on the art of drawing portraits using charcoal.
This event is a first of a series of online drawing workshops launched hot on the heels of ArtHouse’s ‘Isolation Creation’ challenge, which saw many islanders unleash their creativity over 19 daysat the beginning of lockdown.
If you are missing your daily drawing prompts, ArtHouse is now sharing weekly themes devised by Will Bertram every Monday on its Facebook page.
Immersion
Local creatives Natasha Dettman and Simon Edwards are inviting islanders to ‘immerse’ themselves in their new film.
Shot in Bouley Bay, the feature follows swimmer Jane Yates as she enters the cold dark waters.
Video: ‘Immersion’ explores the psychological benefits of cold swimming.
‘Immersion’ aims to explore the physical, mental and spiritual powers cold swimming can offer, as well as the human mind’s ability to overcome adversity and finding a balance in a seemingly inhospitable environment.
It’s one of a number of videos being shared on ArtHouse Jersey Presents, a platform showcasing new content from established and emerging local talents each week.
PS vs the Virus
Pictured: The Potting Shed team have designed poster about covid-19.
The team at the Potting Shed have been creating posters to educate and explore people’s thoughts surrounding lockdown and covid-19.
Compiled in a virtual exhibition, the collection of colourful posters can be discovered from the comfort of your living room.
“It’s been a great collaborative project to keep us working together, even whilst apart,” the team said.
“From developers to PMs, from production to creative, everyone has had a go and the results are in. With so many posters, we’ve created a virtual exhibition to host them all.”

If you’ve been missing your local art galleries, here is some good news!
CCA Galleries International and Private & Public have reopened their doors.
You can now visit the galleries again by booking an appointment in advance.
At CCA Galleries, you will get to admire a series of works on paper by Dan Baldwin while Private & Public is presenting paintings from British artist Jenny Pockley.
The Pitt Stream Gallery is also opening again this Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 and inviting islanders to “come say hello (from a distance) and see what we have been up to during the lockdown”.
