For the first time since it began, Weekender festival will be kicking off the summer rather than bringing it to a close – with acts including FAITHLESS and Sugababes headlining the People’s Park stage this weekend.

Every week, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.

Here’s this week’s offering…

Weekender

The two-day Weekender festival is set to take place on Saturday 5 July and Sunday 6 July at People’s Park.

This year’s event offers variety of music genres across three different stages, including headliners FAITHLESS and Sugababes on the main stage.

Local musicians will also showcase their talent on Mailmate’s ‘Made in Jersey’ stage, which features this year’s under 18s battle of the band winners RIOT.

Much Ado About Nothing

Islanders will have their last chance witness a rendition of one of Shakespeare’s most iconic plays in the open air at Samares Manor tonight.

Performances of Much Ado About Nothing have been running every evening this week, with the final one taking place tonight from 19:30.

Tickets are available from Jersey Arts Centre and are £16 for adults and £10 for students.

Yoga at the Lido

Early morning risers can spend their Saturday morning stretching by the sea with yoga instructor Rebecca Taylor.

The sessions start at the Lido at 09:00 this Saturday 5 July, and run weekly until Saturday 30 August.

Attendees should bring their own mat or towel and are invited to bring swimwear for an optional post-yoga dip.

There will be a chance to enjoy a coffee or snack from the local kiosk afterwards.

Each session costs £5 and is suitable for a variety of abilities, including beginners.

Force 135 at Hamptonne

A new immersive experience is being launched this weekend at Hamptonne Country Life Museum, and will run throughout the summer from 6 July until 7 September.

“Force 135” invites islanders to step back to May 1945 when Jersey was liberated after five years of German Occupation.

Attendees will have the chance to meet the lads from Force 135 from 10:00 to 16:00 on Saturday 6 July, Saturday 3 August, and Saturday 7 September.

Normal entry fees apply, with Hamptonne Country Life Museum free for Jersey Heritage members.

Hola Friday!

Open air DJ sessions have returned to Trenton Square each Friday until 12 September.

Hosted by Jersey Development Company, the event sees various local DJs play music from 17:00 to 19:00.

The free event is open to all islanders and no booking is required.

Light bites and refreshments are available to purchase from Cooper & Co and The Loft.

Gig for Lily

Next weekend, bands will be hitting the stage at the Blue Note bar to raise funds for a young quadruple amputee from Jersey.

The ‘Fundraising for Lily’ gig is taking place on Friday 11 July from 19:30 in support of quadruple amputee Lily McGarry.

Organiser Jess Donoghue is a former classmate of Lily’s, and will headline the event with her band Intermission.

Other local acts, including August Gone and 4K, will also be playing to raise money for Lily.

Tickets cost £6 and can be purchased at the door on the night.

All proceeds will go directly towards helping Lily rebuild her life.
