A stretch of road at La Haule Hill was temporarily closed this morning after a collision linked to black ice amid widespread warnings across the island.

LibertyBus confirmed there was no access to La Haule Hill “until further notice” following what it described as a road traffic collision, causing disruption to services during the morning commute.

Following queries from Express, police confirmed that the incident occurred while vehicles were travelling up La Haule Hill at the crossroads near the La Place Hotel.

Initially involving two vehicles, further cars were later affected, although any additional impacts were described as very minor.

The Infrastructure Department was called to assess the road conditions, and the road has since reopened.

Police confirmed no offences are suspected, with the collision believed to be directly linked to black ice.

The force had earlier warned motorists to take extra care due to dangerous icy conditions, particularly in low-lying and shaded areas.

Police said black ice had formed following overnight wintry showers, increasing the risk of collisions across the island.

Drivers were urged to take extra care, particularly in the area of St Peter’s Valley, where there was an overflow of water and black ice between The Vic in the Valley and the duck pond.

Islanders are encouraged to contact roads maintenance on 445509 if any areas are heavily iced and present a danger to motorists, as the team is responsible for salting and gritting the main roads.
