Engineers are currently working on a suspected gas leak on Bagot Road.
Island Energy was made aware of the incident in St Saviour earlier today.
A section of the road has been excavated, with temporary lights in operation.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area or find an alternative route.
A spokesperson from Island Energy said: “We are working as quickly as possible to rectify the situation safely, and will have traffic restrictions removed at the earliest opportunity.”
Islanders are reminded to call the utility company’s 24-hour emergency line on 01534 755555 if they smell gas or suspect a gas escape.
