Do I need to bring anything with me?

Yes, photo ID is needed, and a passport or driving licence is best.

Don’t have either? That’s not a problem. Alternative forms of identification could include, for example:

  • A work ID card
  • Your phone – if you can log into Yoti or JerseyMe
  • A utility bill dated within the last three months.

…What if I turn up and have forgotten everything?

You can still attend the polling station. Electoral officials will try to verify your identity using parish records, although this may take a little longer.

How many people can I vote for?

That depends on where you live.

Everyone can vote for:

  • Up to nine Senators
  • One Constable for their parish – that’s the parish’s head

The number of Deputies you can vote for depends on your constituency.

That means most Islanders will be able to vote for either 12, 13 or 14 candidates in total.

Ok… what actually happens when I get there?

Voting itself is straightforward.

You’ll be checked in by election officials, who will confirm your identity and provide your ballot papers.

You then head to a private voting booth, mark your choices, and place your paper in the ballot box.

If you’re unsure about anything, election officials will be on hand to help.

What if I’m ill and can’t get to a polling station?

If you are sick, incapacitated, have literacy difficulties, or care for someone in those circumstances and have not already voted by post, you may be able to request a home visit.

Parishes can arrange for an authorised official to visit you and take your vote, ensuring registered voters are not prevented from taking part because of illness or incapacity.

One final thing…

If you’re still deciding who to vote for, Bailiwick Express’s Election Disassembled podcast series features short interviews with candidates from across the political spectrum, asking them to explain their vision for Jersey – and answer a few quick-fire questions along the way.

Whatever your political views, Sunday’s election is your chance to have a say in who represents you over the next four years.
