Firefighters have urged the public to take “extra caution” in hot weather after tacking a 100-metre headland fire this afternoon.

At around 16:00 today, emergency services received a report of an open land fire in the area of Grève de Lecq.

Two fire engines and a water carrier were immediately sent to the scene.

In a post on social media, the fire service said: “On arrival, crews were faced with a headland alight, measuring approximately 20 by 100 metres.

“Firefighters quickly got to work using two medium jets to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to surrounding areas.”

Crews remained on scene to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and the area made safe.

Watch Commander Richard Ryan issued a reminder that extra caution should be taken when visiting open land areas during periods of hot weather.

“Fires can ignite easily and spread rapidly in dry conditions,” he said.
