Four people were led to safety from flats above a town hair salon after a fire broke out in Beresford Street on Monday night.
Emergency services were called to the scene in St Helier at around 20:30 after receiving two reports of smoke and flames coming from a building in the street.
The Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said four fire engines headed to the scene, while on-call firefighters were also called in to assist.
Due to extensive smoke within the building, six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the premises and extinguished the fire.
The blaze was brought under control, with firefighters preventing it from spreading to the flats above.
Four residents were escorted to safety from the building. No injuries have been reported.
The incident prompted the closure of part of the area while emergency crews dealt with the fire.
In an update issued late on Monday evening, around 22:15, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said: “Due to extensive smoke, six firefighters in breathing apparatus extinguished the fire, which is now well under control.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
