Jersey’s Chief Minister has said his thoughts are with “everyone affected” in the Middle East following recent events in the region.

In a statement issued today, Deputy Lyndon Farnham said: “Many islanders have personal or professional connections to the region, and they will naturally be concerned for family, friends and colleagues.”

He added that, amid the uncertainty surrounding the situation, the government’s priority was to ensure that “those who may be affected have access to clear, reliable information.”

The attack on Iran by the United States and Israel has shut down much of the Middle East to air travel, with Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha directly hit by strikes.

Islanders considering travelling to the region – or those with close connections there – are being urged to check the latest advice from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) website.

Deputy Farnham said that country specific travel and consular guidance is being reviewed and updated regularly as the situation develops.

He added that the government is continuing to “monitor events closely through established channels” and “remains in regular contact with UK authorities”. Further updates or support for islanders will be provided if it becomes necessary.

“We recognise that events of this nature are distressing,” the Chief Minister said.

“Islanders who are worried or directly affected are encouraged to seek support and make use of available services.

“Our thoughts remain with all those impacted, and we will continue to keep the situation under close review.”
