The Parish of St Helier has announced plans to reopen the Allix Shipyard by the end of April, following restoration works at the Havre Des Pas site.

The parish bought the historic site for a nominal £1 fee on 26 January, “with the priority of making the area safe, before bringing back the charm and character that make the space so special”.

Initial efforts have focused on improving safety, but officials said early work revealed that patching the existing tarmac would leave the area looking “patchy” throughout the summer. As a result, the parish opted for a full resurfacing of the path.

Visible improvements are already under way, with overgrown vegetation cleared, the old pathway removed, and a new surface laid.

The path will now undergo a 28-day curing period before an anti-skid finish is added to restore its familiar appearance.

Ground lighting has also been repaired and will once again highlight the ship at the centre of the site.

During the curing period, restoration work will continue on the ship itself to ensure it is safe and refreshed for visitors.

Weather permitting, the parish aims to reopen Allix Shipyard by the end of April. The site will then remain unchanged over the summer months to allow the public to enjoy a clean and revitalised space.

A second phase of work is planned for after summer, focusing on restoring key features such as the mosaic, anchor, and storm gates.

Parish officials said: “We are very grateful for your patience and look forward to welcoming you back to a brighter Allix Shipyard soon.”
