While Jersey is still awaiting the final results for Deputy races – with St Helier Central and St Helier North due to announce by this afternoon – we already have an idea of the States Assembly’s make-up…
As volunteers continue to count ballots at the Town Hall, Express crunched some of the numbers so far…
The youngest States Member…
will be Gabriel Raimondo, Deputy-elect for St Brelade, who turned 18 shortly ten days the election, and deferred his A-Levels for a year so he could stand.
The oldest…
…to our knowledge – is St Mary Constable David Johnson, who is 80.
Girl power!
18 women have been elected out of 42 seats announced so far – that’s 43% of the Assembly.
That’s the same percentage as in 2022, but the St Helier North race only has one female candidate in Victoria Li. St Helier Central has an equal split, with four female candidates and four male candidates.
Counting up the votes…
The poll-topper in the senatorial race was Senator-elect Helen Miles – although it was Senator-elector Ian Gorst who won in the most individual parishes, coming first in eight of them.
The smallest margins… were in St Helier South, where Carla Jardim missed out on a Deputy seat by a mere 27 votes.
Other close calls were Deputy Raluca Kovacs missed out on re-election in St Saviour by 120 votes, and Lindsay Ash missed out on a St Clement seat by 114 votes.
The longest-standing States Member…
…is Carolyn Labey, who was first elected in 2002 – six years before her new colleague Gabriel Raimondo was born.
Purple rain?
There are four Members-elect who have endorsed the priorities of Value Jersey.
They are Serena Kersten Guthrie (Senator), Value Jersey’s former communications director Samantha Gleave (Deputy, St Helier South), Value Jersey founder Phil Romeril (Deputy, St Lawrence, St John and Trinity), and Gabriel Raimondo (Deputy, St Brelade).
…and Reform pain
Three Reform Jersey candidates have made it in so far. Both of those groups have candidates in the town counts still to come.
How much opposition was there to unopposed Constables?
The biggest vote for None Of The Above – the alternative given when seats are uncontested – was in St Ouen, where 36.9% of the votes (409 out of 1107) went to NOTA.
How many newcomers were there?
The newcomers ten elected Members are completely new to the States Assembly: Tina Palmer, Samantha Gleave, Arlene Maltman, Chris Rebindaine, Phil Romeril, Serena Kersten Guthrie, Dave Curtis, Chris Leck, Robert Parker, and Gabriel Raimondo.
