The approval of plans for the new acute hospital at Overdale was among the more notable decisions made by the Planning Committee last year – but fewer applications were determined in 2025 than in 2024, newly released figures have shown.
Jersey’s planning and building law requires the Committee to provide the States with a report outlining the number decisions and appeals made each year.
Express took a look at the latest statistics…
The figures at a glance
Between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025 the Planning Committee determined 51 planning applications, of which nine saw the recommendation of a planning officer overturned.

There were also 31 applications reviewed – something that can be requested if plans are refused by the department or a condition attached to a permission is being challenged – with eight upheld in the applicant’s favour.
The Committee also heard nine appeals against previous decisions, of which the majority (six) were dismissed.
How does this compare to the year before?
In 2024, the Planning Committee determined 71 planning applications – of which 13 saw the recommendation of a planning officer overturned.
And 62 applications were reviewed, with 19 upheld in the applicant’s favour.
Major decisions
Some of the more notable applications heard in 2025 included unsuccessful plans for a hotel at Strive in St Peter, as well as the Committee’s decision to give the green light to the new acute hospital to be built at Overdale.
