A former Indian restaurant employee who was accused of threatening a colleague with a metal rod and a knife said he was only removing a naan bread from the oven.
Mohammed Abdul Jalil (57) admitted a charge of grave and criminal assault when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this week.
Speaking through a Bengali interpreter, he said he and the colleague at Saffron restaurant in Havre des Pas had been arguing earlier, but he did not lift the implements in order to threaten him.
But Jalil accepted the colleague may then have feared he was about to be attacked.
Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke adjourned sentencing until 5 September to allow time for a pre-sentence report.
Jalil was released on bail.
