Norman Dean was on Mont Les Vaux, near the former Shell Garden in St. Brelade, around 20:00 on Sunday 29 November when the incident happened.

He was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.

Yesterday afternoon, an inquest was opened into Mr Dean’s death to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

A short hearing took place to allow a family funeral to proceed, and the inquest was subsequently adjourned while further enquiries into what happened take place.

Many islanders paid tribute to Mr Dean after he was identified by Jersey Police earlier this month.

On Facebook, he was described as a “lovely bloke” and “a legend”.

“Norman was a pleasure to know you all the best ones are taken first,” one commenter wrote.

Another added: “A genuine nice chap and one hell of a character, you will be sorely missed by many.”

Flowers and messages have also been left near the site of the collision.
