Jersey Airport’s operations director resigned yesterday – just one month after the aviation regulator lifted the ‘special attention’ condition imposed on the airport.

Ashley Maggs has worked for Ports of Jersey for 11 years, rising from a role in the Airport Fire Service to his current position in the leadership team 17 months ago.

In an email sent to all airport staff and shared with Express, Mr Maggs said: “After much reflection and consideration, I have made the decision to resign from my position at Ports.”

He added: “I am proud of what we’ve achieved together, what we’ve delivered, and the teamwork that defines us, especially when faced with challenges.”

It comes after organisational changes at Ports led to Jersey Airport being placed under “special attention” at the end of last year by the Director of Civil Aviation.

Treasury Minister Elaine Millar last month confirmed that eight employees were put at risk of redundancy due to the restructure at the Airport – five of these in senior positions in its “operational leadership team” – with seven staff members ultimately leaving the organisation and one being promoted into a new role.

The aviation regulator lifted the condition last month.

Ports CEO Matt Thomas also sent an email to staff yesterday which stated that Mr Maggs had decided to leave to “explore new opportunities”.

He wrote: “Ash has been an essential part of our team for more than a decade – a valued colleague, leader, and friend.

“It’s safe to say that we’re going to miss him when he leaves early next year.

“During this transition, Ash will continue to oversee day-to-day operations and ensure continuity as we begin the recruitment process for his successor.”

Express understand that Mr Maggs will work his six-month notice period.
